Ranking 25th, Inchicore was featured alongside the top neighbourhood Notre-Dame-du-Mont in Marseille, France.
This recognition makes Inchicore the fifth Dublin area to be labelled one of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods, following Stoneybatter, Phibsboro, Dublin 8, and Smithfield. Earlier this year, Camden Street in Dublin also appeared on Time Out’s list of the 30 coolest streets globally.
Time Out’s 2024 roundup was based on input from their global network of local writers and editors, who were asked to identify the coolest neighbourhood in their city and explain why. The final list was curated using insights from Time Out’s editors, assessing each location on factors like food, drink, arts, culture, street life, community, and unique local character.
Dublin-based writer Rory Cashin played a key role in securing Inchicore’s spot on the list. He describes Inchicore as “a part of the city that perfectly blends Dublin’s traditional charm with a modern energy,” noting that the trendiness seen in areas like Smithfield and Stoneybatter has now reached Inchicore.
Cashin highlights the mix of old and new in Inchicore, from classic pubs like Cleary’s and The Glen to newer spots like Stillgarden Gin Distillery and the Gravity Climbing Centre. Its central location offers easy access to landmarks such as Phoenix Park, Kilmainham Jail, Dublin Zoo, and the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
A perfect day in Inchicore, according to Cashin, might include coffee at Riggers, a visit to the Richmond Barracks, lunch at Tacos Lupillo, and people-watching, followed by a football game at Richmond Park. For dinner, he suggests Kari, and for drinks, The Black Lion.
Cashin also recommends checking out Rascals Brewing, which regularly hosts events like movie nights and barbecues, adding to the vibrant community atmosphere in Inchicore.
